Ningbo Metro Line 3 and Extension contract awarded to OTN Systems

“We are delighted to have been awarded the Ningbo Metro Line 3 and Extension contract. This means that all 3 metro lines in Ningbo rely on OTN Systems for their operational communications.” says Dirk Van den Berghen, CEO, OTN Systems.

Ningbo Metro is a rapid transit system serving the city of Ningbo and its suburbs. It is the second largest city in the Zhejiang Province of China with a population of about 8 million people.  Ningbo Line 3 consists of 18 stations, 1 OCC and 1 Depot. This metro line stretches 17 km (10 miles) from the south Yinzhou District to Datong Bridge Station in the Jiangbei District. During the construction of Line 3, a 15 km (9 miles) extension will be made including 6 stations.

The OTN Systems’ XTran and OTN (Open Transport Network) product lines have been selected to guarantee that all related operational communication needs are fulfilled so that passengers in Ningbo can be transported safely and interruption-free.

The XTran network for Ningbo Metro Line 3 and Extension will consist of XT2210A nodes. XTran allows customers to go full packet. Its underlying MPLS-TP technology avoids the complexity of generic telecom solutions developed for service providers. XTran makes MPLS for Operational Telecom easy.  Moreover, an OTN (Open Transport Network) ring will consist of N7224C nodes.  The two redundant rings will provide IP based applications and E1 services to each station. The total backbone capacity is 20 Gbps.

Ningbo Line 3 and Extension will be put into operation in 2019.  The first system, Ningbo Metro Line 1, was opened to the public in 2014 and Line 2 in 2015.
