Meet OTN Systems at the UTC Conference in Portland, USA

Join us at the UTC Telecom & Technology 2021 Conference in Portland, USA, from August 23 to August 27.  The Utilities Technology Council (UTC) is a global association focused on the intersection of telecommunications and utility infrastructure.  Enjoy a plethora of sessions, webinars and forums that go in-depth into the world of telecommunications and technology.

ATTEND THE PRE-CONFERENCE TRAINING ON AUGUST 24, 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM
"Ultra High Reliability for Mission Critical Telecommunications"

Training topics:

  • Ultra High Reliability
Ultra High Reliability with Zero millisecond hitless switching within the substation using 61850 HSR in the Process Bus, 61850 PRP in the Substation Bus as well as Hitless Switching for Legacy Applications between substations like T1, C37.94, Mirrored Bits.
You will also see a live demo of Hitless Switching vs traditional sub-50ms.

  • 1588 Precision Timing – Power Profile and Transparent Clocking
Power Utilities increasingly need Precision Timing for many applications. Transparent Clocking makes it possible to use the Terrestrial Network Infrastructure and achieve microsecond precision between the Master Clock and the Boundary Clocks if all active Network Elements in between support Transparent clocking without breaking the chain.
You will see a live demo of 36 hops between a Master Clock and a Boundary clock and the impact of Transparent Clocking.

  • Wirespeed Encryption - MacSec
Encryption and Cyber Security are now essential to protect the Bulk Energy Infrastructure and the Power Grid. Traditional Encryption technology based on CPU processing introduce latency that are acceptable to application that are not time sensitive. MacSEC offers hardware based Encryption that introduces microsecond latency that will not impact time critical applications like Current Differential Relaying.
You will see a live demo of enabling MacSec on WAN fiber links between substations and see the timing impact on a simulated C37.94 CDR relay application.

LISTEN TO OUR PRESENTATION during the "Operations Issues" track session
on Wednesday, August 25, 9:40 AM - 10:40 AM:
"How IEEE1588 Power Profile with Transparent Clocking will keep your PTP Clocks microseconds precise via your Terrestrial Fiber Network"

Synchronization across Wide Area Networks have become a challenge for the Power Utility industry. Especially when the reasons for power interrupts or blackouts must be analyzed. But also protection, automation and control need accurate time references. This presentation will discuss the evolution of clocking, from separate clock lines in synchronized serial networks, walking through TDM synchronization to future time synchronization protocols like IEEE1588. We will explain the IEEE1588 key principles and the differences between the profiles that are currently in use along with best practices. Emerging measurement applications require an absolute accuracy of 1 micro second or better. A terrestrial clocking distribution network is necessary to complement satellite based systems.

All networks carry information.
Some networks carry it exactly the way you want.
